Pupil Premium Grant Policy and Report
The ‘Pupil Premium’ grant is a portion of additional funding provided to schools for supporting more disadvantaged pupils to ensure they benefit from the same opportunities as all other children. There are several categories of children for whom ‘Pupil Premium’ funding is received:
- Children entitled to Free School Meals at any point in the last six years
- Children Looked After in care (LAC)
- Children adopted from Care (Post-LAC)
- Children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces
Who decides how the funding is spent?
It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.
“Schools, head teachers and teachers will decide how to use the Pupil Premium allocation, as they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for individual pupils. It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools per FSM pupil, is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.” (DfE website)
What are the Principles behind using Pupil Premium funding at JOPs?
- We aim to meet the needs of all pupils through quality first teaching in the classroom and differentiated activities.
- We further ensure that appropriate additional provision is made for pupils who have been assessed as making slow progress or who are not meeting age related expectations. This includes ensuring that the needs of socially disadvantaged pupils and pupils who belong to other vulnerable groups are adequately assessed and addressed.
- In making provision for spending the Pupil Premium funding, we recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged.
- We also recognise that not all pupils who are disadvantaged are registered or qualify for free school meals.
- We reserve the right to allocate Pupil Premium funding to support any pupil or groups the school has legitimately identified as disadvantaged.
- Pupil Premium funding will be allocated following a needs analysis which will identify priority individuals, groups and/or classes based on monitoring attainment and progress against age related national expectations.
- Limited funding and resources means that all children receiving free school meals or who qualify may not be in receipt of pupil premium funded support or interventions at one time.
Who reviews the Pupil Premium Policy in our school?
The impact of intervention for our Pupil Premium pupils will be reported to and monitored by the Governors’ Teaching and Standards Committee on an annual basis. The next date of review is September 2023.
